Vigan is one of Asia’s most scenic cities. The capital of Ilocos Sur joined 12 other Asian cities in a list published last August 28 by CNN Travel. Vigan is one of the most famous tourist spots in the country, known for its centuries-old colonial constructions and cobblestone streets.

It was also named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was one of the world’s New7Wonder towns in 2014. Tourism officer Edgar dela Cruz said it’s an honor to be acknowledged as one of the most scenic cities in Asia.

Other towns on the list include Hoi An (Vietnam), Yufuin (Japan), George Town (Malaysia), Luang Prabang (Laos), Kampot (Cambodia), Phuket Town (Thailand), Saikung (Hong Kong), Zhouzhuang (China), Galle (Sri Lanka), Mawlynnong (India) and Ghandruk (Nepal).

Vigan was founded in 1572 by the Spaniards, making it one of the country’s oldest towns.
