Underdog label fires up Pacquiao

Filipino Boxer, Manny Pacquiao delights the underdog status in their July 20 world welterweight war in Las Vegas as Pacquiao doesn’t mind surrendering the favorite tag to the unbeaten young American Keith Thurman.

“Beautiful,” exclaimed a beaming Pacquiao when told about Thurman being the oddsmakers’ choice.

“That’s what I like,” added Pacquiao, who is ten years senior of Thurman at 40.

Pacquiao has been the betting favorite in over a decade excluding when he faced Oscar De La Hoya in Dec. 2008 and Floyd Mayweather in 2015.

Pacquiao beat De La Hoya but Mayweather lived up to his billing when he carved out a decision win over the Filipino star in what has gone down as the richest fight of all time.

Pacquiao promises that Thurman’s higher ranking among bettors is only going to make him “work harder in training.”

Pacquiao stated, “It’s going to make me even more determined to win.”

Pacquiao and Thurman will host a two-city press tour commencement with the formal announcement of their fight at the Gotham Hall in New York City on Tuesday.

Their tour will make a brief stop in Los Angeles on Wednesday before the two head off to their respective training headquarters.

Pacquiao leaves for the Big Apple on Sunday night convoyed by lawyer Tom Falgui, lead trainer Buboy Fernandez and staffers Steve Jumalon, Joe Ramos, Roger Fernandez and David Sisson.

Sean Gibbons, now handling the boxing affairs of Pacquiao, left for the US to set the stage for the team’s arrival at JFK International where Pacquiao to and his party are likely to land shortly before midnight of Sunday.
