After a crucial campaign on Saturday night at the Huaqiao International Service Business Park in Kunshan, China; Pasig’s Chooks-to-Go grieved an early exit in the 2019 FIBA 3×3 Kunshan Challenger.
Kings fails to qualify, because of these two defeats, for the higher-level tournament Chengdu Masters slated next month.
Games were spearheaded by top Filipino 3×3 cager Joshua Munzon, Taylor Statham, Dylan Ababou and Troy Rike—fell short against Sosnovy Bor of Russia, 19-21, and later on lost to world No. 3 Liman of Serbia, 12-22, in Pool A.
The aggravating loss for Pasig against Sosnovy Bor as the defending Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 champion was still leading 17-15 with just barely two minutes left in the game.
Artem Timofeev tied the match at 17-all on an and-one play off Statham’s foul then hit a two-pointer to give the Russian club a 19-17 lead. While, Munzon answered back with a deuce for another deadlock but Vladislav Meleshkin buried the game-winning shot from beyond the arc for Sosnovy Bor on the 1:28 mark.
Pasig then went on a lethargic 6-14 start against Serbian powerhouse Liman.
Munzon and Statham tried to will the Kings back but the quartet of world’s top 3×3 players Stefan Kojic, Aleksandar Ratkov, Maksim Kovacevic and Mihailo Vasic unleashed a balanced attack to finish the game with 2:13 to spare.
However, Pasig is scheduled to join the Tinkoff Moscow Challenger on June 7 to 8. The tourney will serve as a qualifier for the Prague Masters on June 29 to 30.
The Kings will also start their title-retention bid in the second conference of the 2019 Chooks 3×3 national league which will fire off on June 1 at the SM Seaside Events Center in Cebu.Share on
