The Agriculture House Committee will give priority to measures to authorize the use of rice subsidies for the pick-up of pallets (unhusked rice) from local farmers from distinct government agencies, said Wilfrido Enverga, Quezon City 1st district representative.

Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund Jr. also suggested giving real rice purchased from local farmers rather than money to the recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Philippine (4Ps) Program.

Meanwhile, the leading majority Martin Romualdez and Tingog Sinirangan Party List Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez have tabled resolutions urging government agencies to purchase the palay direct from local farming companies for the rice subsidy program in cooperation with the National Food Authority and Agriculture Department.

These measures aim to alleviate the adverse impact on farmers in the Philippines of the Rice Tariff Law that liberalized rice imports.
