Bela Padilla was cast in Miracle in Cell No. 7, replacing Nadine Lustre, who dropped out of her role because of medical issues.
The film, a remake of a famous Korean comedy drama film, is among the first four entries chosen for the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). The involvement of Nadine in the film was announced previously in July.
Viva President and COO Vincent del Rosario said in a letter to the MMFFF committee that Miss Lustre requested the project because of medical issues and her resulting failure to fulfill her responsibilities as an actress during the shooting up to the promotion of the film.

Miracle in Cell No. 7 says the tale of an intellectually disabled person who is wrongly jailed for a young girl’s murder. He is friends with the hardened criminals who are his fellow prisoners as he serves time in the maximum security prison, and they assist him construct his case.
Premiere at the MMFF is anticipated in December.
